Sunday Success Story: Michael Jordan

Sunday Success Story

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” –Michael Jordan

Even the greats fail sometimes. One of the best players to play the game. He got cut from his high school basketball team twice. With tears in his eyes he told his parents that he was going to play in the NBA one day. He developed a strong competitive spirit from an early age, never wanting to lose. Often competing against his greatest rival, himself. Jordan went on to play at UNC and won a national championship there in 1982, sinking the game winning shot against Georgetown. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls and won rookie of the year in 1984. The Bulls soon become a formidable opponent with Jordan leading the way. The Bulls lost 3 straight conference championships to the Pistons from 1988-1990. The following year Jordan and the Bulls beat the Pistons on their way to their first NBA championship. The following year the Bulls won their second NBA championship. The next year they won their third championship. Tragedy struck in Michael Jordan’s life, his father was murdered and Jordan decided to retire from basketball and pursue baseball instead. After a year he returned to the Bulls and won three more NBA championships. During his tenure in the NBA, Jordan had several endorsements including Nike in which he maximized their opportunities offered. After he retired Jordan was elected into the basketball hall of fame. Michael Jorden had a white hot fire inside of him that was never satisfied with where he was in life. From becoming one of the best players in NBA history to his success in his business endeavors after his career, Jordan always competed with himself to continually improve. He has learned from his failures throughout his life. No matter what you want in your life, you are going to experience some failure along the way.
